Melika Foroutan wurde 1976 in Teheran geboren. Aufgrund des politischen Engagements des Vaters musste die Familie 2 Jahre nach der islamischen Revolution das Land verlassen und floh nach Deutschland, das Geburtsland ihrer Mutter. Dort wuchs Melika im beschaulichen Städtchen Boppard am Rhein auf. Schon früh in ihrem Leben entwickelte sie eine Begeisterung für Film und Theater. Ihr Vater hatte in Paris Filmregie studiert, ihre Mutter war am Theater aktiv, wo Melika mit elf Jahren zum ersten Mal auf der Bühne stand und ab dann regelmäßig in den Sommer-und Winterstücken der heimischen Theatergruppe mitspielte.

Nach einem Philosophiestudium in Köln ging es ab 1999 zum Schauspielstudium an die UdK in Berlin und nach ihrem Abschluss für die Spielzeit 2003/04 ans Schauspiel in Leipzig.

Auf der Bühne war Foroutan allerdings nur kurze Zeit zu erleben. Nach zwei Jahren verlagerte sich ihr Fokus endgültig ins filmische Metier.

In Fernsehproduktionen, wie der mit dem Grimmepreis bedachten Serie "KDD - Kriminaldauerdienst", wurde sie das erste Mal einem größeren Publikum bekannt.

Für ihre Rolle der alkoholkranken Kommissarin "Louise Boni", im gleichnamigen Zweiteiler, erhielt sie den Hessischen Filmpreis.

Für ihre Hauptrolle in "Pari" des iranischen Regisseurs Siamak Etemadi, der bei der Berlinale 2021 uraufgeführt wurde, erhielt sie den griechischen Filmpreis als Beste Schauspielerin. Zuletzt war Melika Foroutan in der Miniserie "Schlafende Hunde" bei Netflix zu sehen.

Das von Ali Samadi Ahadi inszenierte Drama "Sieben Tage" über eine iranische Aktivistin wurde 2024 beim Filmfestival in Toronto uraufgeführt. Darüber hinaus hat Melika Foroutan die Vampirserie "City of Blood" unter der Regie von Philipp Kadelbach abgedreht – und avanciert 2025 zur "Tatort"-Kommissarin. Gemeinsam mit Edin Hasanovic bildet sie das neue Frankfurter Ermittlerteam.

Aktuell ist sie als Erzherzogin Sophie in der 2. Staffel der mit einem International Emmy ausgezeichneten Netflix-Serie "Die Kaiserin“ zu sehen.

Melika Foroutan hat zahlreiche Hörbücher und Hörspiele aufgenommen, zuletzt "Antichristie", das neue Buch von Mithu Sanyal, und die Hörspielreihe "Marvel‘s Wastelanders".

Melika ist Antifaschistin und unterstützt das AfD Verbotsverfahren.

Melika Foroutan was born in Tehran in 1976. Due to her father's political activism, the family was forced to leave the country two years after the Islamic Revolution and fled to Germany, her mother's birthplace. There, Melika grew up in the tranquil town of Boppard/Rhein. Early in her life, she developed a passion for film and theater. Her father had studied film directing in Paris, and her mother was active in theater, where Melika first appeared on stage at the age of eleven. From then on, she regularly participated in the local theater group's summer and winter productions.

After studying philosophy in Cologne, she began acting studies at the University of the Arts (UdK) in Berlin in 1999 and, following graduation, joined the Leipzig theater for the 2003/04 season.

However, Foroutan's time on stage was brief. After two years, she shifted her focus entirely to film.

She first became known to a wider audience through television productions, such as the Grimme Award-winning series "KDD - Kriminaldauerdienst".

For her role as the alcoholic detective "Louise Boni" in the two-part series of the same name, she received the Hessian Film Award.

Her leading role in "Pari", directed by Iranian filmmaker Siamak Etemadi and premiered at the 2021 Berlinale, earned her the Greek Film Award for Best Actress. Most recently, Melika Foroutan appeared in the Netflix miniseries "Schlafende Hunde".

The drama "Sieben Tage", directed by Ali Samadi Ahadi and depicting the story of an Iranian activist, premiered in 2024 at the Toronto Film Festival. Additionally, Melika Foroutan has completed filming the vampire series "City of Blood", directed by Philipp Kadelbach, and is set to become a "Tatort" detective in 2025. Alongside Edin Hasanovic, she will form the new Frankfurt investigative team.

Currently, she appears as Archduchess Sophie in the second season of the International Emmy-winning Netflix series "Die Kaiserin".

Melika Foroutan has also recorded numerous audiobooks and radio dramas, including "Antichristie", the latest book by Mithu Sanyal, and the radio drama series "Marvel’s Wastelanders".

Melika is an anti-fascist and supports the legal proceedings to ban the AfD.
